The NFL Power Rankings for week 10 and Recap after week 9 of the
Season. The NY Jets downed the Buffalo Bills last Thursday. The Jets dominated both sides of the ball. With the win the Jets now are 4-5 and have surpassed the projected win total that everyone thought they would win all season. Also,
on Thursday, the Federal Appeals court will hear arguments from both the NFL and NFLPA in regards to Ezekiel Elliott's attempt to have his 6 game suspension permanently overturned.
It was another Sunday of any team can win on any given Sunday in the
NFL. We saw 2 explosive games where in the first game, the Philadelphia Eagles destroyed the Denver Broncos at home. The Eagles scored at will and often as they put 51 points on the board against arguably one of the best defenses in all of football. Denver once again had problems on offense and a once promising season is slipping away quickly for the Broncos. The other game showcased the top offense in the league destroying the NY Giants on the road. The LA Rams also put up 51 points as they trounced the Giants to take over 1st place in the NFC West. To me, it looked like the Giants quit on their Head Coach Ben Mcadoo and QB Eli Manning and the offense looks dazed and confused. Other early games seen the Titans hold on for a close win against the Ravens. Tennessee has done just enough to win games this year but it has been a disappointing season as many picked the Titans to run away with the AFC South. The Colts went into Houston and stole a game they had no chance of winning except for the lack of a good QB for Houston. Without DeShaun Watson, the once explosive offense looks average at best. The Texans reached out to former QB Colin Kaepernick to see his availability and instead of making it just to look good on paper in their interest in him, take a chance on him and try to save their season. Kaperernick is hands downs better then any of the QB's on the Texans roster. In New Orleans, the Saints won for the 6th straight game and they continue to be atop the NFC South. Outside of the Eagles, who seem to be the overwhelming best team in the NFC, the Saints have become the 2nd best team. In a must win game for both the Falcons and the Panthers, Carolina eked out a 3 point win. Atlanta is in danger of not making the playoffs this season after going to the Super Bowl last season. In Jacksonville, the Jaguars ran roughshod over the Bengals. The Jaguars won the game without star rookie RB, Leonard Fournette who was benched for the game for disciplinary reasons.
In the late Sunday games, We saw the best game of the week in Seattle again, this time the banged up Washington Redskins behind QB Kirk Cousins engineered a late TD drive to win a close game. The Redskins needed to win this game to have any chance to get one of the 2 Wild Card spots. Cousins was the difference in this game and will be an unrestricted FA at the end of the season and will be paid as a Top 5 QB in the NFL. Arizona behind backup QB Drew Stanton and the resurgence of RB Adrian Peterson handed the San Francisco 49'ers their 9th straight loss to open the NFL season. In Dallas, the Cowboys behind the running of Ezekiel Elliott and a surprisingly good game from their defense handed the Kansas City Chiefs their 3rd loss in the their last 4 games. The Sunday night game was a good game between 2 average at best teams right now as the Raiders beat the Dolphins in Miami. In a penalty filled game, Oakland won the battle in the trenches.
The Monday night game saw a match up of 2 NFC North teams as the Detroit Lions went into Green Bay and dominated all facets of the game in winning handily against the Packers. Detroit stopped a 3 game losing streak and won for the 2nd time in their last 3 games at Lambeau Field. Green Bay lost for the 3rd straight game since QB Aaron Rodgers went down with a shoulder injury. The Packers who were coming off their bye week had many glaring weaknesses that the Lions took full advantage of in this game.
Their were numerous fights and skirmishes in games this past Sunday. Embarrassing to the NFL and also its Players. One has to wonder, if this is a culmination of the Players frustration with the NFL about the issues they want addressed and resolved and also the Kaepernick exclusion from playing for an NFL team. Either way, the suspensions handed out by the NFL made no sense and yet another Black Cloud rises above the NFL.
