Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years and a Joyous Holiday Season to All!!!! We are down to the final two weeks of the NFL regular season and only a handful of teams have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Some teams will clinch a berth this weekend, some next weekend, some will back in , some will need allot of help, and some will be eliminated no later than Christmas Day. Ezekiel Elliott returns to the Cowboys, but is it too late for them? The Packers shut down Aaron Rodgers for the rest of the season after being eliminated last weekend.
On Saturday, there are 2 games being played and in both games only one team has anything to truly play for today. In the first game the Colts travel to Baltimore. The Ravens need a win to clinch a playoff spot while the Colts are just playing out the season. The second game has the first place in the NFC North, Minnesota Vikings, visiting the Packers in Green Bay. Minnesota is still fighting for overall home field advantage in the NFC while the Packers are playing for hopefully pride.
Sunday's early games start off with the LA Chargers traveling to NY to face the Jets. The Chargers cost themselves a big chance to make the playoffs last week and now must rely on others to help them. New England hosts the Buffalo Bills in a game that both teams need to win. The Patriots to keep the overall top spot in the AFC while the Bills need to keep winning to have a slim chance at making the playoffs. One has to wonder if the one game experiment of replacing Tyrod Taylor with Nathan Peterman has cost the Bills a playoff spot this season. Tampa Bay travels to Carolina. The Panthers are currently tied for the top spot in the NFC South. One of the biggest games of the weekend has the Falcons traveling to New Orleans to face the Saints. This is a must win game for both teams. Kansas City hosts the Dolphins. The Chiefs hold their own destiny in the AFC West even after losing 6 of their last 8 games. The LA Rams visit the Titans in Tennessee. Both teams need to win but the game means more to the Titans playoff hopes then it does to the Rams. Cincinnati hosts the Lions in a must win game for the Lions who also need help from other teams to get into the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Bengals have been done for a while now. The Browns travel to Chicago still looking for their first win of the season. Cleveland which has lost 29 or their last 30 games, looks to end their win less streak this week against the Bears. In the last of the early games, two disappointing teams battle as the Broncos visit the Redskins.
The Sunday late games start off with the 1st place in the AFC South, Jacksonville Jaguars, traveling to San Francisco to face the 49'ers. The 49'ers have gotten better as the season has went on and the Jaguars need a win to clinch the South Division. The Cowboys host the Seahawks in another must win game for both teams. Both teams need lots of help from other teams to get into the playoffs but also both teams must win their final 2 games first and foremost. The last on the late games showcases the NY Giants traveling to Arizona to face the Cardinals. Another game that has no playoff implications.
On Monday, Christmas Day, we have 2 games to watch as the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Texans in Houston. The Steelers season took a hit when WR Antonio Brown went down with a calf injury and could be sidelined indefinitely. His loss could severely hurt their plans for a deep playoff run. The second game has the very disappointing Oakland Raiders traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles. The Eagles still reeling from the loss of their QB Carson Wentz are working on getting backup QB Nick Foles ready for the playoffs.
