Sunday kicks off in the early games as the 49'ers head into the Windy City to play Chicago. Jimmy Garoppolo makes his San Francisco debut against a struggling Bears team that has a good defense but a bad offense. Atlanta, winners of 3 straight host the Vikings who are winners of 7 straight. Both teams are gearing up for the Playoffs and trying to get healthy in the meantime. The Colts travel to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars. Jacksonville has a top defense and if they had a decent QB, they would be a top contender in the AFC challenging the Patriots. Baltimore and their stingy defense host Detroit. The Lions are in a must win game and need to also win out to have any chance of making the playoffs. The Ravens also need to win but have an inept offense that will cost them any chances of going anywhere if they do make the playoffs this season. In a game between two of the biggest disappointments this year, the Broncos travel to Miami to face the Dolphins. Both teams have a hard time scoring and Denver will change QB's for the 3rd time this season as they go back to Trevor Siemian. A battle will be brewing in Buffalo on Sunday as the 1st place Patriots visit the Buffalo Bills. The Bills will start QB Tyrod Taylor and it looks like the experiment at least for the rest of this season is over in Buffalo as it relates to who will be the starting QB. New England has found its stride after a shaky start to the season and has reeled off 7 straight wins.
Tampa Bay travels to Green Bay and the Buccaneers will have QB Jameis Winston back after being out a couple of games with a shoulder injury. The Packers, who are coming off a tough last second loss on Monday night, look to build on a solid game by backup QB Brett Hundley. In NY, the Jets face the struggling Kansas City Chiefs. The Jets who have been competitive and a surprising team, face the Chiefs who are losers of 5 of their last 6 games. Houston travels to Tennessee in a battle of AFC South teams. The Texans rely heavily on their defense and the Titans have had just enough offense to be tied for 1st place.
In the late Sunday games, the win less Cleveland Browns visit the LA Chargers, who at this point are only a game out of 1st place in the AFC West and are playing real good football. WR Josh Gordon will be playing in his first game since 2014 for the Browns. This could be the year after a bad start, that will see the Chargers in the playoffs for the first time since 2009. A big game will be the Panthers traveling to New Orleans in a battle for 2st place in the NFC South. Both teams look to take a strong hold on the Division with a win. In Arizona, the 1st place LA Rams will face the Cardinals. The Rams are coming off their big win over the Saints while Arizona looks to continue to try and get back in the playoff race in the NFC. The last place NY Giants visiting the 2nd place Oakland Raiders. The Giants for the 1st time in 211 games will be starting a QB other than Eli Manning as they look to find their next franchise QB. Oakland on the other side, is seeking to keep alive in the AFC West. On Sunday night, the best team in the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles, will visit the Seattle Seahawks in a game that should be very entertaining to say the least. The Eagles who have won 9 in a row face the Seahawks who also are in a must win game.
On Monday night, the Bengals host the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh which has a 3 game lead in the AFC North face a Cincinnati team that will be lucky to finish above the .500 mark once again. The Steelers are rolling along and this looks like on paper a rout in the making.
On a separate note, the NFL once again chose not to do the right thing as it caved into the NFLPA and only gave the Raiders Michael Crabtree and the Broncos Aqib Talib each a one game suspension for an all out fight and starting a brawl in last Sunday's game. This has been simmering for a year now with the incident last season of Talib ripping a chain off the neck of Crabtree during a game. Fights and obsessive trash talking and over the top TD celebrations have fueled fights and team brawls the past few weeks and for the NFL to once again refuse to do what is right sends the wrong message to all involved.
