CFB Top25 Week 14 and Recap of week13 by CupofJoeintheD

Here is the CFB Top 25 Week 14, updated by Joey the CFB Cat Analyst and also by CupofJoeintheD and the recap of Week 13 of the CFB season  A week where the Top 10 once again had upsets and caused a major shakeup the Saturday before the Championship games. Alabama, the previous #1 team in the Country, lost to Auburn and will not be in the Conference Championship. We now have the Roll Tide's HC Nick Saban lobbying for the final Playoff position with one loss knowing there is a chance they will not be in the CFB Playoff unless a team or two above them loses this upcoming weekend.  The other major upset seen the undefeated Miami Hurricanes losing to an unranked Pittsburgh Panther's team in a game that showed how hard it is for college teams to get up for every game they play.  The discussions of who the Top 4 will be starts to get very interesting now that there is only one week left and that is the Conference Championships that will be decided. And on Sunday evening we will have the CFB 4 Team Playoff picture as well as the other 35+ Bowl team selections. As it is every year, there will be a team or 2 that will feel slighted when they are not part of the CFB Playoffs.
As Week 13 of the College Football Season ended  here are my CFB Playoff teams going into the Championship Games weekend,  There are; Clemson, Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Auburn.  There is no doubt that the selection committee has a tough job, but one has to wonder just how impartial the members can be? No doubt they have their allegiances to certain teams and conferences and no matter what anyone says, the almighty $$$ also comes into play as the top 4 teams get a boat load of money to play in these games.
There are only two unbeaten teams left and mostly because they have not played the toughest of schedules this season but still they are undefeated after week 13. They are Wisconsin and UCF.  Wisconsin is in the B1G but UCF is not in a power 5 Conference and even if UCF wins their Conference Championship, they will not get into the CFB Playoff discussion. And Wisconsin, which played a very soft non conference schedule may very well pay the price for doing so. Just as the Badgers do with the Basketball team the football team followed suit and now may be on the outside looking in when all is said and done. Wisconsin needs to win big and put up allot of points against Ohio State in the B1G Conference Championship. Also, Ohio State, if they beat Wisconsin will lobby for a chance to be a 2 loss team in the playoffs. The Buckeyes beat the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday as once again the Wolverines HC Jim Harbaugh couldn't win the big game and this season was 0-3 against their main rivals MSU, PSU, and OSU.
Oklahoma which doled out its slap on the wrists punishment to their star QB Baker Mayfield, held him out for only a few minutes of the 1st quarter. This is not the first time he has done something stupid and foolish and yet the Sooners sent out the wrong message again.  The punishment should of been one that finally would send not only Mayfield a stern punishment, it should of been one that let everyone know this should not be tolerated at all. But as it is nowadays, this comes down to money and prestige. Oklahoma is in the 4 team hunt for the CFB Playoff and there is no way they would not let Baker Mayfield play in this game. The correct punishment should of been a minimum of a one game suspension, if not the rest of the season but Oklahoma and also the coach have to answer to their alumni and boosters. Winning is the only thing that matters anymore and money is the root of all its evil.  It is time for the NCAA to find its backbone and when a school does not address what is becoming a huge problem with their college football and basketball teams, they need to step in and hand down the discipline that is needed. We can't expect Colleges to do the right thing anymore when all that matters is wins and making money for the schools.
We also have learned as the coaching carousel in the CFB has started, once again schools refuse to do the right thing when it comes to showing respect as they fire a coach.  College Football has become such a lucrative venue that schools see the need to fire Coaches even when they still owe the coach millions. Such as much happened at Arizona State, when they fired HC Todd Graham even though they owe him $12.3 M. Other Coaches were fired and they also were owed millions and millions. It is sad that schools have no regard to money anymore except they want to make more and more of it even at the expense of their Head Coaches. So as the carousel starts in motion, we will once again see many coaches fired and the rush to hire a teams next coach, but not in a timely and vetted and thought out process, but in one that they throw crazy money at another coach that is usually still coaching another team and also one that is usually preparing for a bowl game. And finally there needs to be a discussion about the leaving of a head coach after they have recruiter players, and that the NCAA does not allow student athletes to transfer to another school immediately to play, just as a coach is allowed to, but the NCAA penalizes them with a mandatory 1 year sit out. So the NCAA needs to address some issues that surround the game but also need to move their rules into the 21st century.
On a side note, the University of Tennessee in now the Cleveland Browns of  College Sports. They are the laughing stock of the college football world. The school announced on Sunday that there were all set to hire Ohio State's OC Greg Schiano as their Head Coach. Well instead of doing the right thing and hiring Schiano for the position, the school after backlash by fans and some media members rescinded their offer even though there was already a letter of intent signed by both sides. The AD of Tennessee, John Currie and the Administration caved in and showed a lack of a backbone in reversing their decision to hire Schiano. The main reason was an unsubstantiated report that when Schiano was at Penn State he knew about the Jerry Sandusky scandal and did nothing about it.  Some of the students weren't even born and even more appalling is the school allowed a small group of protesters and media members to dictate who the school will hire as their next football coach. I would think any Top Head Coach would stay away from Tennessee now unless they are Lane Kiffin and the school throws 7-10M a year at him to coach the Vols once again.. It is a match made in heaven for Tennessee and probably the only choice they have anymore.  No matter how hard they try and spin this, Tennessee will be the fodder for all the jokes and bad mouthing going forward and they deserve all they get for their stupidity.  They destroyed the reputation of from all accounts and those who know of Greg Schiano as he is known as a  good coach and person. I truly hope Schiano goes back after Tennessee for all the money he is owed.
