Alabama, once again pounded another SEC to remain undefeated and put even more distance between themselves and #2 Penn State. The Nittany Lions also perfect so far this season at (6-0), were enjoying their bye week off as they get ready to play the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan, once a Top 5 team, needed OT to beat an average at best Indiana team. The Wolverines had to rely on their defense and a run game as the passing game is non existent and Coach Jim Harbaugh once again got lucky as He has a glaring deficiency at QB. Looks like playoff hopes have went out the window Michigan this season. Georgia cruised to an easy victory over Missouri as they rolled up almost 700 yards in offense. Looks like the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 2nd will showcase both Alabama and Georgia playing each other. Wisconsin and TCU also took care of business and round out the Top 5. Ohio State destroyed Nebraska and Oklahoma State crushed Baylor to remain in the Top 10.
Oklahoma got by Texas to get back on track and with losses to others in the Top 10 this past week, position themselves to make a strong season ending push to get back in the CFB Playoff race. Notre Dame has quietly moved back up in the Polls after their only loss of the year to #3 Georgia. South Florida has moved into the Top 15 and is the only school outside of a Power Conference to remain undefeated and have a remote outside chance to be a Playoff team. Michigan State has positioned themselves to be spoiler and potential Top 10 team as they have rebounded from a disastrous 2016 season to be 5-1 with 2 big games in the next 3 weeks against PSU and OSU.
Auburn let a 17-0 lead evaporate and lost to LSU in a game LSU needed to win and once again an Auburn team led by coach Gus Malzahn couldn't win the big game. So much wasted talent year in and year out at Auburn.
Outside of the Top 25, Tennessee lost another game they should of won after making a switch at QB and Coach Butch Jones time in Knoxville may be coming to an end. The Vols face Alabama this week and unless Jones can rally his team, the Roll Tide should cruise to a 25+ point win. Tennessee is another team that recruits Top talent year in and year out, yet cannot win games they should win and are often badly out coached. Evidence of this once again reared its ugly head in this past weekends game against South Carolina. The play calling at the end of the game was atrocious and cost the Vols a must needed win instead of the heart wrenching loss they endeared.
Remember, I generally only pick games whose point spreads are 7 points or less and always pick a minimum of 4 underdogs a week. Joey the CFB Analyst went 25-5 in week 8 including picking 4 upsets, YTD, He is 148-41 with 30 upsets picked. Watch for His week 9 picks later this week.
On a separate note, We saw the NCAA once again become the laughing stock of College Athletics as they showed how spineless they have become in issuing not even a slap on the wrist to North Carolina in an alleged repeat of major infractions of academic fraud against the Tar Heels athletes. In a ruling that took years to complete, it showed the lack of any power by the NCAA anymore. College athletics have become a huge money making machine for Colleges and Coaches, especially in Basketball and Football and I look for the NCAA to continue to be powerless going forward.
