My Weekly Sports Recap and Thoughts from the "D" and Beyond

I am starting a weekly review post of Sports and my Thoughts as they pertain to the "D" and Beyond.  This was a week filled with all sorts of drama and ups and downs. In the "D":
Lions: A drama filled start to the week when Ndamukong Suh announced he was signing a 6 year deal with Miami that makes him the highest paid Defensive Player in the NFL. (Miami was crazy to pay him this much money and without a good supporting cast around him, I see other teams double and triple teaming him and Miami will be no better than 8-8). The Lions also lost Nick Fairley to the Rams in Free Agency but made a real good signing in FA of ex Raven DT Haloti Hgata and are currently bringing in a few others to fill gaps on the team.
RedWings: The Wings have been atop the Eastern Conference of the NHL all year but have struggled badly the past few weeks and are making costly miscues and have slid back a few places in the playoff race. As the Season starts to wind down they need to work harder and smarter if they want to make a deep run this year towards the Stanley Cup.
Pistons:  The Pistons on the other hand are a team that lives and dies by the 3 ball, can't play defense at all and have lost 8 straight games and have showed the glaring weaknesses that  come from a team with only average at best NBA talent. Stan Van Gundy in his first year has had many ups and downs and some drama and a major injury to overcome. But this team has more holes in it and its defense than a piece of cheap swiss cheese.
Tigers: Spring Training is in full bloom and not allot to report on yet, both Cabrera and Martinez are coming back slowly from injuries, new faces such as Gose and Cespedes are getting acclimated, as is the new starting pitching rotation and bullpen, which has many many unanswered questions and not a defined closer yet and Nathan who was hit or miss as last years closer got rocked hard this week and was booed heavily by the fans.
Spartans: Tom Izzo's Spartans will make their 18th straight NCAA BBall tournament appearance this year but this isn't a normal mentally tough and talented group as He has had in the past. MSU won their last B1G games of the year but not without lots of drama, an injury and a team that breaks down mentally at the worst times and also can't shoot free throws. They rank near the bottom on the NCAA Div.1 teams in FT %. Bad FT shooting might be their Achilles heel in the NCAA Tourney.
Wolverines:  The Basketball team ended a disappointing season with one win in the B1G tourney and may have a slim chance of earning an NIT bid. The team didn't live up to its preseason Top 20 billing but also suffered a few major injuries during the season, but the Leadership of its Seasoned players just wasn't there for them.

Sports beyond the "D":
NFL Free Agency: Tuesday was the first full day for teams to sign Free Agents and it was a day full of signings and trades and teams continuing to cut players to free up salary cap space. The biggest FA signing was the Dolphins signing Suh to a huge contract that makes him the highest paid Defensive player in the league. Other teams made trades and cut players and signed players, some were good moves and some moves didn't really make sense or they chose to sign a player just to sign him. As of today, I see with many more moves to be made before the Draft and Season, I see the winners so far as: The Seahawks, Saints, Lions, Colts, Packers, and Rams. Losers are: Eagles, Texans, 49'ers, and Jets.  I am sure next week, both the winners and losers will change accordingly.
Baseball: Spring Training Games have begun and teams are looking hard at finalizing their rosters, The Texas Rangers were dealt a huge loss this week when one of the premiere pitchers in all of baseball, Yu Darvish injured his pitching arm and will have season ending Tommy John surgery. A couple of weeks until MLB will start the real Season and all fans have hope that their team will be good this year.
NCAA: March Madness will start in a few days but the fun starts on Sunday when the NCAA selection committee will announce which teams are in and where they are playing and against which other team. Teams on the Bubble will wait in anticipation to see their names called or they will sit there and wait and wonder why their name wasn't called and then wait for the NIT to come a calling for them to play.
NBA and NHL: Their Seasons are starting to wind down with a month of the regular seasons to go and teams are jockeying for Playoff positions and also for home court and home ice advantage.
NFL Draft Day: a little over 6 weeks to go before draft day starts on April 30, 2015
NFL Season: Starts in a little over 5 months on September 10, 2015.
