Buckeyes win National Championship playing Big Ten Physical Football

The Buckeyes won the first ever National Championship playoff with a resounding thumping of Oregon last night.  OSU was more physical on both sides of the ball and wore down the Ducks will old time smash mouth football. The Buckeyes and the rest of the big Ten has been told they do not have the most athletic players or the fastest players and the fast athletic players will always win over the bigger more physical Midwestern type athletes. Well after watching last nights game, I along with many others beg to differ. The Buckeyes were just as fast and athletic but were fare more physical especially in the trenches. The Buckeyes win, coupled with MSU's win over Baylor and other bowl game wins by the Big Ten showed the college football world that the Big Ten is indeed a conference to be reckoned with and they can play with anyone and win. OSU and Coach Urban Meyer deserve a ton of respect and accolades for what they were able to accomplish having to use 3 different QB's thru the season and yet they won it all. The fast paced offense used by Oregon and some other college teams can score allot of points but their defenses also allow allot of points and they usually win in shoot outs.  OSU played old style football with running the ball down the throats of the Oregon defense and daring them to stop the run. When Oregon tried to stop the run,, which wasn't too often, the Buckeyes would throw a successful pass.  If it wasn't for the 4 turnovers by OSU in this game, it would of turned out to be really really ugly. Oregon early on dropped a few critical 3rd down passes and were stopped short of the goal line and after a quick 10 points in the 3rd quarter to pull within a point, OSU went back to the physical ground game and put the game away.  Oregon and others who use the fast paced offense will rack up allot of wins every year but the real question is that when the Championship is on the line what kind of team would you rather have on the field?  A physical athletic team like the Buckeyes or a fast paced athletic team who scores on trick plays and deception but isn't ready to play 60 minutes of Big Ten smash mouth football!!!   @cupofjoeinthed
