College Football Bowl Games Mediocrity

When did we start rewarding College teams with a Bowl game for finishing the football season with 6 wins? When did finishing 6 and 6, mean hey great season welcome to a College football bowl game? Oh that's right, when Conferences and Colleges got real greedy and everything became about the almighty dollar!  In college hoops, a team can go to the NCAA tournament with a losing record but they must win their conference championship to do it. But in the bigger conferences in football, 6 wins almost guarantees a team of a Bowl game and more money to the school and conference. Even when you watch some of these bowl games and see only a few thousand fans or so in the stands, the schools and conferences get guaranteed monies as they send a team that maybe finished 6 and 5 or 6 and 6 to a bowl game. Ironically, colleges will fire a coach that wins 8 or 9 games every year because he isn't winning more games or getting into bigger bowl games but they have no problems sending their teams to a bowl game with 6 wins. Don't get me wrong, bowl games are a great way to reward a college team for a good season but it should be at least 7 wins or winning the conference championship.  There are 39 bowl games this year for the FCS this year alone, this includes the new 4 team Championship format. Do we really need all these bowl games?  I know Colleges will say it is to reward the teams, the alumni and those who follow the team and also it is good for recruiting, but to me it is just about the greed and all important dollar to these Colleges.   #cupofjoeinthed
