CFB Top25 Week 2 by Joey the Cat and CupofJoeintheD

Here is the CFB Top 25 after week 1, updated by Joey the CFB Cat Analyst and also by CupofJoeintheD. Week 1 of the CFB season seen pretty much what everyone expected from Alabama as the Roll Tide steamrolled Louisville.  Much was made before the game as to who would be starting at QB for Alabama. But it was clearly evident that Tua Tagovailoa is the Man. Jalen Hurts is now the #2 QB which is a good situation for Nick Saban or one would think it is but as everyone saw after the game, when he was asked by ABC sideline reporter Maria Taylor, Saban went off on her and then abruptly left. It was said He called her later on that night to apologize.  Alabama continues to play a relative easy non conference schedule as do many of the Power House teams and until the Playoff Committee has the gumption to penalize these teams for doing this and not worry what the Sponsors of the Big Bowls think, there is little chance that the Top 5 or so Elite teams will lose a non conference game. This would also include Clemson, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Ohio State.  Michigan has been in this category the past few years as well but they started out playing Notre Dame this season and took it on the chin losing for the 17th straight time on the road against a Ranked team. The Wolverines have in the past cancelled playing a tougher foe to play a cupcake team instead.
As for the cupcake first games for the following; Clemson rolled over Furman. Georgia crushed Austin Peay. Wisconsin routed Western Kentucky. Ohio State put a beat down on a Power 5 conference school but it was a bottom feeder school in Oregon State. Penn State got a huge scare and needed OT to beat Appalachian State. Michigan State needed a late TD to beat Utah State. UCLA after starting QB Wilton Speight went down got beat by Cincinnati. Hawaii has won their first two games as underdogs.
There were also some very entertaining and well played games and a few not so well played games that saw Top 25 teams playing each other.. The best game of the weekend saw #9 Auburn beat #5 Washington 21-16. A great win for the War Eagles over the Huskies... It also will hurt the Pac12 from potentially getting into the CFB 4 team Playoffs.  Notre Dame #14 beat #12 Michigan in South Bend. This was a big game for both teams but didn't hurt their chances of the Playoffs at this point in time. And the annual Labor Day night game showcased #16 Virginia Tech playing #19 Florida State.  This game was pretty much over early on as the Hokies scored early and their stout defense allowed just a FG to Florida State as Virginia Tech gave notice to the ACC and the rest of the Country that they are the real deal this season.
Biggest upset this past weekend was #23 Texas losing for the second year in a row to unraknked Maryland in The Longhorns coaching debut of Tom Herman. As I stated earlier in this blog post, Michigan again was outplayed and out coached and lost their season opener. The Wolverines are now 8-8 in their last 16 games under HC Jim Harbaugh. Michigan still says Harbaugh is not on the hot seat and will Coach as long as He wants to at the school. He brings in huge amounts of donors and money to the school and has had a huge influence on Michigan football as a Brand.
The weekly side note for week #1 is the continued and baffling rants by Ohio State HC Urban Meyer on Twitter. For someone who got off with just a slap on the wrist, He is trying to justify his actions and now wants everyone to think He did nothing wrong and the school should of never suspended him for 3 games. To me I still do not see how this is a suspension. Meyer is allowed on Campus and in the football building, with his players and coaches right up to Friday night. Also, the 3 teams he cannot coach on the sidelines aren't exactly Top teams in Oregon State, Rutgers, and TCU which is the toughest of these 3 teams..
Joey was 19-5 the first week including picking 3 upsets. Joey will provide his picks of the week on Thursday as he does every week.  We will revise our Top25 every week thru the College Football Season..  twitter; @TheCupofJoeintheD   email; cupofjoeinthed@gmail.com    www.cupofjoeinthed.blogspot.com
