NFL Power Rankings Week 14 and Week 13 Recap

The NFL Power Rankings for week 14 and Recap after week 13 of the Season. Week 13 led off with an NFC East showdown between the Redskins and Cowboys. It was a must win game for both teams but at the end of the game it was all Dallas as they rolled over Washington. The Redskins OL had more holes in it then a good piece of swiss cheese and the Cowboys defense was in the backfield before Redskins QB Kirk Cousins could even drop back. Washington's season is pretty much over and Dallas needs to run the table and get a lot of help from other teams to even have a chance getting into the Playoffs.
In other NFL News, the NY Giants fired HC Ben McAdoo and GM Jerry Reese a week after they benched QB Eli Manning.  Just a few weeks earlier the Owners proclaimed their support of McAdoo but they succumbed to all the media and fan pressure and after less then 2 years as HC, the Giants now are looking for another Head Coach. We also seen a continuing and very disturbing trend of players trying to deliberately hurt opposing players, especially with helmet to helmet hits. Case and point was this past Monday night game between the Steelers and Bengals. This is a heated rivalry filled with hatred between the teams and it happened again when in separate instances we seen Steelers Juju Smith-Schuster intentionally lead with his helmet and injure Bengals LB Burfict and Bengals Safety George Iloka try and decapitate Steelers WR Antonio Brown. Both players received a one game suspension but they should of gotten at least 2 games, especially Smith-Schuster who then stood over Burfict and taunted him as He laid on the ground. IIoka appealed his 1 game suspension and the  league rescinded his suspension, meaning hurt another player on purpose and appeal it and you might get a fine but no suspension. Also, Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski after a play was over, dove on top of a Bills player already on the ground and led with his forearm as he drove DB Tre' Whites head into the turf causing a concussion. Gronkowski issued a very lack luster apology after the game and as He did he went in a rant that he was the one of illegal holds and hits all game long. What was yet another Black Eye for the NFL was Gronlowski's illegal hit was intentional and he caused injury to an opposing player and yet all He got was a laughable 1 game suspension. Whereas, He should of received 3-4 games, one has to question if the relationship between NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Patriots Owner had anything to do with only a 1 game suspension instead of the punishment and discipline the hit should of called for in this game.  The Players complain about the illegal hits and hits to the head that cause concussions, but it also seems that the players continue to do this to each other and many of these hits are intentional and malicious.
In the early Sunday games, we seen some exciting high scoring games and also a couple of real snoozers. In Chicago, the 49'ers with QB Jimmy Garoppolo getting his first start and 5 FG's from Robbie Gould including the game winner with 4 seconds to go, beat the Bears for their 2nd win of the season.  The Falcons hosted the Vikings in an NFC Heavyweight battle that saw Minnesota win their 8th game in a row. There should be no doubt that Case Kennum is the starter for the rest of the season. Jacksonville downed the Colts to remain tied with the Titans for 1st place in the AFC South.  Baltimore at home crushed Detroit and kept their playoff hopes alive and hurt the Lions chances as well. Lions QB Matt Stafford was also hurt and left this game with a hurt hand.  Denver traveled to Miami in a game that featured 2 of the worst offenses in football. It was Miami's offense that came alive and the Dolphins walloped the Broncos. New England went into Buffalo and had an easy game as they beat the Bills who lost QB Tyrod Taylor to a potential season ending knee injury. In a game that both teams had to win, the Packers at home needed OT to beat Tampa Bay. The win kept the Packers slim playoff hopes alive and also saw QB Aaron Rodgers throw with the team this past week for the first time with the team and could come off IR on December 16th.  We saw a high scoring and entertaining game in NY as the NY Jets on a late TD, downed the struggling KC Chiefs who have lost 6 of their last 7 games. Tennessee kept on rolling as they beat the Texans. The Titans are tied for first in the AFC South.
The late games on Sunday seen the Chargers at home keep the Browns win less and the Chargers who are playing the best football right now of all the AFC West teams, have now moved into a 3 way tie for 1st place.  In New Orleans, the Saints beat Carolina and gave themselves a bit of breathing room. New Orleans now is in sole possession of 1st place in the NFC South and face the Falcons on Thursday night. A win over the Atlanta will pave the way for the Saints to win the Division.  The Rams traveled to Arizona and doubled up the Cardinals.  In Oakland, the Raiders took down the NY Giants who started QB Geno Smith over Eli Manning. Manning had started 210 consecutive games before being replaced as the starter. HC Ben McAdoo was fired yesterday after the Giants lost their 10th game of the season.  The Sunday night game had the Seahawks at home, play perhaps their best game of the season as they beat the 1st place Eagles ending the Eagles 8 game winning streak.
On Monday night, we watched a street fight that broke out into a football game as the Steelers beat the Bengals to stay atop of the AFC.  A game between 2 teams that hate each other seen some cheap shots and illegal hits turn a good hard hitting game into an all out game of each team hurting the opposing teams players. Steelers LB Ryan Shazier went down with a spine injury and was carted off the field on a stretcher and is still in a Cincinnati hospital as of this article being written today. Our thoughts and Prayers go out to Mr. Shazier and His Family and Friends and the Steelers.
