NFL Power Rankings Week 7 and Week 6 Recap

The NFL Power Rankings for week 7 and Recap after week 6 of the Season. The Philadelphia Eagles went in Charlotte and won and exciting nail biting game as they defeated the Carolina Panthers. Both teams relied heavily on their defenses in the first half and the Eagles offense got it going in the 2nd half and edged out Carolina 28-23 to remain on top of the NFC East.
It was another Sunday of any team can win on any given Sunday in the NFL.  Injuries again hit teams hard with the biggest loss of the season so far as the Packers lost starting QB Aaron Rodgers possibly for the rest of the season with a broken collarbone. Many are calling the hit that caused Rodgers injury a dirty hit but lets be honest here, there is not one single defensive player who when he has a clear open hit on a QB isn't going to take it. Aaron Rodgers was out of the pocket as He is often and the Vikings LB Anthony Barr and He made sure to make the hit count. Minnesota won the game and has sole possession of 1st place in the NFC North. On a side note, Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater has been cleared to return to the team after being out all of last season and the first 6 games of this season with a bad knee injury. The Vikings have 21 days to decide whether to place him on this years roster or to put him on injured reserve for the rest of the season. It will be an interesting decision as starting QB Sam Bradford continues to be out with a reoccurring deep bone bruise in his surgically repaired knee.
In other early Sunday games, We saw the Miami Dolphins overcome a 17 point halftime deficit to stun the Falcons in Atlanta. Atlanta an early favorite to return to the Super Bowl this year, looks nothing like the offensive juggernaut of last season and have struggled badly thru the first 6 games of this season. The Dolphins are now (3-2) and just one game behind New England for 1st place in the AFC East.  In the highest scoring and most entertaining game of the week, we saw the Lions and Saints put up 90 points on the board. However, it wasn't the offenses that totally lit it up, the combined defenses accounted for 5 of the TD's. New Orleans has now won 3 in a row while Detroit has lost 2 in a row going into their bye week. It was also a costly game for the Lions as they saw numerous starters go out with various injuries.  The Houston Texans cruised to another victory behind rookie QB DeShaun Watson and handed the Cleveland Browns their 6 straight loss to open  he season. Houston will have to rely on their newly found explosive offense to overcome season ending injuries to a few of the main defensive starters.
San Francisco lost another game to remain win less. It was yet another game that the 49'ers lost by less then 5 points. The 49'ers benched starting QB Brian Hoyer and replaced him with 3rd season QB  CJ Bethard, who ignited the offense and will remain the starters for the foreseeable future. Chicago, who started rookie QB Trubisky for the 2nd game in a row needed OT to win a game they almost lost that they easily had won in Baltimore. The Ravens once again struggled mightily on offense. Baltimore QB Joe Flacco had another bad game.  In a battle on the East Coast, it was the Patriots holding off the feisty NY Jets to take over first place in the AFC East. Once again a controversial call on a catch, no catch TD cost the Jets a potential game tying TD in this game.  Tampa Bay visited the struggling Arizona Cardinals who got the boost the team needed when newly acquired RB Adrian Peterson showed flashes of his old self running for almost 150 yards and 2 TD's. With the newly found running game, this gave time to QB Carson Palmer and he was able to torch the Buccaneers secondary. The closeness at the end of the game spoiled an offensive explosion by the Cardinals who romped out to a 31-6 lead. In the game, Tampa Bay QB Jameis Winston went down with a serious shoulder injury and will be week to week as He heals. The surprising 1st place in the NFC West, Los Angeles Rams scored early on and held off the Jaguars to run their record to (4-2).  Jacksonville which had its kicker miss FG's again, cut him and will sign another kicker this week.
The late afternoon games saw the game of the week as the Steelers traveled to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs.  Pittsburgh which has had the Chiefs number lately, once again showed why they are a force to be reckoned with this season, Behind the running game and a reborn passing game, the Steelers handed Kansas City their 1st loss of the season. The Chiefs were the last NFL team to be undefeated this season.  In Oakland,  Raiders QB David Carr returned after missing 2 games with a back injury, Unfortunately his return wasn't enough as the Chargers behind RB Melvin Gordon won on a last second FG to get their 1st win of the season.  The Sunday night game was probably the biggest surprise of the day as the NY Giants who were heavy underdogs and came into the game with a crippled offense, stunned the Broncos in Denver to finally also get their 1st win of the season. New York's defense showed up and was the difference in this game.
Monday night showcased the Colts visiting the Titans in Nashville. In a seesaw back and forth game, Tennessee pulled away late in the 3rd quarter in a game they were suppose to win. Titans QB Marcus Mariota, who was battling a bad hamstring injury did just enough to help the Titans win. The Colts who have struggled on both sides of the ball this season, are still without starting QB Andrew Luck who is rumored to be coming back the week after their bye week.
