On Saturday, Christmas Eve, we will see most of the NFL games of this week being played. Starting off will be the Browns hosting the Chargers in the 2nd to last game of the season as they try to not go 0-16. Atlanta travels to Carolina where they try to keep their one game lead in the NFC South. Once again drama surrounds Cam Newton as he continues to get hit late by opposing teams without the refs throwing a flag on the play. A big NFC North showdown has the Vikings coming off a bad performance last week at home traveling to Green Bay in a must win game for both teams. If the Packers win, the last game of the year at Detroit will be for the NFC North Division title. The Jaguars host the Titans a week after they lost their 9th game in a row and fired HC Gus Bradley while Tennessee won on a last second FG to remain tied with the Texans for first place in the AFC South. In Buffalo in what will probably be HC Rex Ryan's last home game, the Bills who have been eliminated from the playoffs will try and stop the Dolphins run into the playoffs. The disappointing NY Jets travel to New England to face the Patriots. The Pats have the best record in the AFC and are looking to earn home field advantage thru the playoffs with a win. In the last of the early games, the Redskins who lost this past Monday, visit the Bears in Chicago. This is a must win game for Washington, who now need lots of help to get in as the last WC in the NFC.
In the late games on Saturday, The Colts travel to face the Raiders in a game that Indianapolis needs to win for a WC berth and the Raiders need to win to keep atop the AFC West and also earn a first round bye. Seattle who holds the number 2 spot in the NFC right now, hosts the struggling Arizona Cardinals who have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season. San Francisco, losers of 13 straight will visit the Rams in LA in a game that has little meaning but many players playing for positions next year. In a huge game for the Buccaneers, Tampa Bay visits the Saints in New Orleans. The Bucs are a game out in the NFC South and currently hold the last WC spot. The night games on Christmas Eve has the Bengals traveling to Houston to play the Texans who are in 1st place int he AFC South. Houston who had a dramatic come from behind victory last Sunday, benched struggling QB Brock Osweiler to the delight of the fans. Back up QB Tom Savage came in and played well enough to get the win and has been named starter for the last 2 games of the season. Could this be the end of the $70M Brock O. in Houston?
On Sunday, Christmas Day, there will be 2 NFL games played and both have huge playoff ramifications. The first game has the Baltimore Ravens visiting the first place Pittsburgh Steelers who have won 5 straight games. The Ravens won the first game between the 2 teams and the winner of this game will likely win the AFC North, while the loser will probably not make the playoffs. The second game has the Chiefs hosting the Broncos. It is a must win game for Denver who are in jeopardy of not making the playoffs after winning the Super Bowl last year and the Chiefs are only a game out of 1st place in the AFC West and hold onto the number one WC spot right now. With 2 games to go, the Chiefs also are looking at a must win game.
The Monday night game has the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Detroit Lions. It is a game that both teams want to win but it isn't a must win game for either team. If Dallas wins, they win the NFC outright with the best record and will have home field advantage throughout the Playoffs. If Detroit wins, they will win the NFC North outright. If Detroit loses, they will face the Green Bay Packers in an NFC showdown on New Years Day in Detroit.
A question for all those who love the NFL, is the NFL becoming too friendly of a league between the players? It seems the days of hated rivalries and teams playing good tough physical football with a chip on their shoulders has gone by the wayside.
With injuries mounting for many NFL teams this season, those who have fantasy football teams are scrambling to just put a team out there in the fantasy Football Playoffs Week 15 results; Cooper 11-5, YTD; 166-55-2 CupofJoeintheD 10-6 , twitter; @cupofjoeinthed email; cupofjoeinthed@gmail.com
